Springdale Academy of Maritime Education and Training Trust (SAMET) is an ISO 9001: 2008 quality certified educational institute by Bureau of VERITAS, set up in 2008.It was formed with a prime aim to provide unique and excellent maritime training to the mercantile seafarers. It also aims to help prospective students to pursue their career in Merchant Navy through a hassle-free structured process.
Since the formation of the organisation in 2008, SAMET has grown with student numbers from an initial intake of 3 Deck Cadets on Edexcel HND In Nautical Science Programme. To date, approximately 160 Deck Cadets have entered the Pre Sea Certificate programme. SAMET holds a sustained placement record for the past three years in an average and aims to achieve 100% by the end of this year. SAMET makes substantial contribution towards staff training and knowledge/skill up-gradation of staffs by putting them on courses in Quality Management Systems, accountancy, admin and various other on the job training.
From its initial one office present in the heart of Bhubaneswar, India (which is well equipped with facilities to train current cohort in the Pre Sea Cert as well as students in Cert HE programme, in future), SAMET is currently expanding its provision with a brand new purpose built building with a total built up area of 34000 sq ft including halls of residence. This will allow expansion and provision of more specialized training resources within the premises.
One of SAMET’s strategic objectives is to provide world class training in Merchant Navy and to develop students as independent learners, preparing them for a career as a Merchant Navy Deck/Engineer Officer with the knowledge, skills and attitudes which such an undertaking demands
In SAMET, it is strongly believed that the students should successfully complete their Maritime studies from the academy and become confident future officers delivering quality to the organisation they join and also prove themselves as key asset to the organization.
SAMET has an experience of running maritime courses since its inception. It initially started with delivering preparatory Officer of the Watch (OOW) coaching to direct entry cadets who were experienced seafarers with little or no knowledge of modules to be taught in maritime colleges or Universities in the UK.
SAMET works closely with around 15 shipping companies around the world to help its students find a placement. These include Rigel Ship Management (Europe) Ltd, Shehadah Maritime Co. (SMC), Al Jaber Shipping Company, Abou Merhi Shipping Lines.
